Hayley says: I danced at Trevonne from the age of 2 and I have never really looked back.  Up to the age of 13 I just attended my dance lessons as so many young girls do, it was then that I made up my first dance for a show, little did I know this then set me off on a path for my future.  When I reached university age I left Melton and started a 3 year course at London College of Dance.  Whilst at university I travelled back at weekends and midweek  to continue teaching at Trevonne.  When I finished university I had gained a BA Hons degree, ITDA & ISTD teaching qualification and gained “The up & coming Choreographer Award”. I then returned to Melton and continued at Trevonne; I then really began to get my teeth into teaching and choreography.

“A teacher effects eternity, she will never know where her influences will stop” H Adams

This quote is so true and I feel so privileged to have a job that means so much to me.  Going to work is such a pleasure, you never know who is going to learn that tricky step they have been struggling with and by slowly working with someone you can build their confidence and self-worth. I love passing on my knowledge and enthusiasm.  Seeing pupils obtain fantastic exam results is also so rewarding, particularly when you know how much hard work they have put in to achieve them.

Children learn to dance for so many different reasons; fitness, confidence or living out their mums dream to name but a few. Those who carry on will take with them not only the years of training but a lifetime of memories and friendship. My closest friends are all part of Trevonne in some shape or form.

I wouldn’t wish to change being born into Trevonne, it is all I have ever known but I have a genuine passion for it, maybe that is why Trevonne is so successful because we are a family run business with a team that have such a desire for what we do.  All our teachers and staff were once young dancers themselves, then colleagues and now great friends.

Vicky says:

Hi everyone!

I have been part of the ‘Trevonne family’ since the age of 6-where I have thoroughly enjoyed my

lessons in Tap, Ballet, Modern and Acro also performing in their annual pantomimes and shows each

year, until I was 22. This is where my passion started for wanting to have a career in singing, dancing

and performing. After leaving school I attended Melton Brooksby College where I did a BTEC in performing Arts

which then lead to me taking things further.

I then went on to train at London School Of Musical Theatre in 2009 after appearing and coming

third in the reality TV programme Grease Is The Word to play Sandy in the West End. I had such an

amazing experience and was very supported by everyone at Trevonne who came down to cheer me

on in the studios every week! After qualifying I have been lucky enough to appear in many shows, tours, musicals, pantomimes

and cruise ships which has taken me around the world!

Whilst I am still enjoying my performing in shows I am very happy to be back with my Trevonne family teaching and encouraging all the children on their performing journey!

Megan has been with Trevonne for 12 years and has been dancing since the age of 5 years old. Ever since she was little she loved to perform which is one of the reasons she started at Trevonne. The amazing group of teachers inspired Megan to one day teach at the school her self. So at the age of 14 she started out as volunteer teacher in Musical Theatre. Soon after that, she began teaching different styles of dance at Trevonne aswell. She is also currently a pupil at the dance school and she finds it fulfilling being part of the family who introduced her to her love for dance. Trevonne is such a supportive environment to develop new skills and make new friends. Dance has became such a big part of her life and Megan is honoured to be able to share her love for it here.

Principal and founder of Trevonne Stage School

Trevonne was established in 1973 - Yvonne took over the school at the age of 21, when she was a newly qualified teacher. It was initially a small school of 12 pupils and the first classes were held in the Drill Hall on Asfordby Road. Trevonne was originally a small branch from Ann Oliver’s dance school in Leicester. Yvonne started as just a teacher of this branch, but when it was threatened with closure she offered to take it over with the success she made of it growing from 12 pupils to what Trevonne is now today! The most rewarding part of being principal for Yvonne is seeing the progress the children make during their time at Trevonne with examinations and seeing their enjoyment on the stage. Yvonne says that after running the school for so many years it is always nice to see a former pupil return with their children, to date we have not yet had a pupil return with a grandchild! Yvonne’s main role at Trevonne now is overseeing the running of the school.
