Remembering ouR founder
Yvonne Makins
ARAD, AIDTA, AISTD, Former Fellow and Examiner (Dance and Drama Association), Lifetime member of IDTA
Founder of Trevonne Stage School
Trevonne was established in 1973 - Yvonne took over the school at the age of 21, when she was a newly qualified teacher. It was initially a small school of 12 pupils and the first classes were held in the Drill Hall on Asfordby Road. Trevonne was originally a small branch from Ann Oliver’s dance school in Leicester. Yvonne started as just a teacher of this branch, but when it was threatened with closure she offered to take it over with the success she made of it growing from 12 pupils to what Trevonne is now today!
The most rewarding part of being principal for Yvonne was seeing the progress the children made during their time at Trevonne with examinations and seeing their enjoyment on the stage. Yvonne said that after running the school for so many years it was always so nice to see a former pupil return with their children.
